How do you validate the information on a text message?
To be honest I look who sent the information (caller id) unless it was information or requests outside of the norm then I would speak with the person directly.

How do you validate information about a death of a close person?

How do you validate information from an email?

How do you validate information from local TV NEWS?

How do you validate information from a website?
I will go to the source, I learned this can be very hard when I did an essay on the state budget. I would find contrary information on the website the information was taken from. A great example is from that report is: http://articles.cnn.com/2011-01-18/us/new.jersey.layoffs_1_police-force-police-officers-public-safety?_s=PM:US
The article takes its information for the FBI. Here is the FBI's website that references articles like this: http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/about/variables_affecting_crime.html
Basically, the FBI says it is almost impossible for someone to take the data and make such an accusation such as Camden, NJ is the most crime ridden in the state. In fact other articles later on will boast the ratio of crimes to population and use numbers that are way larger then the entire population of Camden, NJ.

If I am interested in the subject I will do research online or even call the number listed directly.
How do you validate information from an instructor?
This is the question I did not even think about until the class we talked about this. If I feel the teacher is credible I take it at face value. This is a bad practice and I am working on a better solution.
List the things or events that would cause you to bypass those processes for validation and why those issues would cause you to do so.
Short of an emergency of someone directly related to me I would not bypass it. A large benefit about the bulk of my family being in CA is that I am not the first person that would be contacted. If I was I would have to verify before getting on a plane not matter the circumstance. If I lived in CA I would probably not think about it and just bypass it for a telephone call or text. If it was an email I would not go pass my protocol.
